“I don’t really recall my life before design. I vaguely recall an existence before computers. What I do remember like yesterday was the time when the internet combined my excitement for graphic design with the ability to engage and interact with people all over the world.” “The moments we want to make a memory, we do an effort to make special. As every creative person, the pinnacle of my existence is to accomplish that task in one of your many memories.”

I’m a fortunate person in many generations of Danish designers who pioneered and lived the ideology of form and functionality. Never has there been such diversity in media and so many outlets for sensory input and interaction. As a designer and creative person, I’m empowered like never before. While Danish design tradition is mostly rooted in furniture, I have the pleasure of diversifying my creative garden with abundance: graphic design, online application, fashion design, photography, interior design, game development— the list goes on.

I don’t take this gift lightly. I demand being inspired and excited by my work every day— how could I not? This is my dream.

Professional work history told by 3rd person film trailer narrator:

Rasmus graduated college with honors in 1996. He has a bachelors degree in new media/business and started his career as an art director with Lowe, Lintas & Partners until the foundation of his own agency named slrp in 1999.

After two hectic years of dedication to push the boundaries of creative work and exploring the new frontier with online media, slrp design was sold to Euro rscg where Rasmus accepted the role of Creative Director. In 2002 he moved to New York City to become an artist and run a contemporary men's fashion brand while on contract with several agencies. Before founding HAUS, Rasmus relocated to Los Angeles to fill the role of Design Director and VP for Saatchi & Saatchi LA where he molded the Toyota brand and in particular the $500 million Toyota Tundra launch.

His portfolio includes luxury brands like Georgina Goodman (Communication Arts winner), New York Times Style Magazine, Nike Women (Cyber Lion and Clio winner), Georgio Armani, Tory Burch, Los Angeles magazine, Emirate Airlines, and Narciso Rodriguez. Rasmus has also worked with brands such as Coca-Cola, xBox, Playstation, Carlsberg, Toyota, Al Gore, Target, Aol, Pbs and music artists such as Kanye West, Junior Senior (MTV award nominated), Aqua (Barbie Girl) and Head Automatica.

“I was born and raised about 6 miles outside of Bluffton, Indiana. Nothing but corn, soybeans and the Wabash river. I had a cow field 10 feet outside of my bedroom window, a dog named Whiskers and a cat named Buzzo. We had a lot of bonfires, burned lots of things. I spent my free days wandering the country side, building forts, playing baseball, fishing in the river, smoking menthol cigs, skateboarding in my garage and walking around plowed fields searching for arrowheads. (I have a nice collection of artifacts, the oldest is from the time the woolly mammoths still roamed.) I liked shooting bb guns and roman candles, playing with knives and Chinese throwing stars.”

As you can tell, I had plenty of spare time on my hands, so I taught myself to draw. I always liked to draw, and then I got a Salvador Dali book for Christmas and was inspired to paint in oils, mostly portraits. I won a bunch of awards and decided art school was for me (the army did not sound as appealing). I went to Chicago where I was accepted into the fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Fine art soon gave way to my new interest in filmmaking— I fell in love with the bolex. My first film was a b&w stop motion film that looked like an animated Joel Peter Witkin photo. I won a scholarship for it, started my second film, but never finished it. The film and processing were too expensive, so I entered the video department at SAIC. I was very fortunate, for at that time, the school acquired digital editing workstations (media 100's running on Mac 8600's). Digital video led to my interest in After Effects and Photoshop, versions 3 and 4 respectively. I remember the first time I was shown command-z, it revolutionized my life!

I was soon building my first website using Dreamweaver 1. I built websites for Tricky Pictures and also Backyard Productions. Both were well ahead of their time, both had Quicktime 3 videos of their respective tv commercials. I soon after designed and authored my first DVD using Final Cut Pro 1 and DVD Studio Pro 1, which won a BDA award. It tied for bronze with the Zoolander DVD! Around this time, I founded my first company, Transistor Studios. It started out as a web and DVD design studio that we soon transformed into a motion graphics studio... I rode that wave for 7 years, took a long break and then started HAUS.

Our studio is located next to the Hollywood sign in the Hollywood hills, with a beautiful view of downtown LA. The converted house features several patios, easy parking and close access to the highways. Whether you’re taking a break or working, you will be inspired by the natural splendor of the hills.
